Abstract [en]
Project SEBYR is about extracting sheabutter from the sheanuts that grow in West Africa. Today the Africans are using very primitive methods to extract the sheabutter. The aim of project SEBYR is to reduce the women's physical effort and shorten the extraction process. A machine consisting of three devices has been developed. The crusher consists of two cylinders that rotate in opposite directions. The nuts are split into pieces of 5-10 mm. The mill consists of two plates that get strained to each other. One of them is rotated and the splinted nuts are grinded into a chocolate-like paste. The paste is then washed with water in the separater, until the sheabutter floats on the top. The separater consists of a beater that is fixed in a frame that can be placed in an ordinary water bucket. The sheabutter is used as lotion, cooking-fat and ingredient in soap production.
