Abstract [sv]
According Swedish law the district´s chief nurse is responsible for the quality of health care including technical aids used by the physical disabled. The aims of this study were to investigate the functions and supply of technical aids and generate the costs of future needs ina saouth-west Swedish community with 8000 inhibitants. According to q questionnaire, mailed to 101 nurses, assistant nurses and home help aides (with an 86% response rate), 70 percent felt that their patients´technical aids increased their self-care capabilities, although 35 percent of the staff felt a need for more knowledge about these aids. Another questionnaire, involving 59 patients and 79 technical aids orders, showed that 58 percent of these patients received their aids within 3 days, 96 percent within 14 days, and all within 31 days. Technical aid orders were collected during a period af 12 months. The results showed that 260 persons (3 percent) of the community´s population had redeived 339 technical aids. The prognosis, based on these orders and the district´s population prognosis, shows that the need of technical aids will increase by 40 percent by the year 2010.
