The world is changing at an ever-increasing pace. It is therefore necessary for organisations to adapt their ways of operating in order to be able to complete under new conditions in the business environment. Inthis paper the questions; Why do organisations have to change?, Why do the change targets often resist change?. How can an change agent overcome the resistance to change? are answered. For this reason the existing theories and key success factors within this field are presented along with a model for obtaining commitment to change. ABB Atom in Västerås, Sweden was chosen as the case study of this dissertation. For this reason, the present leadership situation at ABB ATom is examined and compared to the presented theories and key success factors. The dissertation highlights evidence thAt the resistance of change targets to change in most cases can be overcome through communicating vision, education and above all through participation.
