Abstract [sv]
Background: Today IKEA of Sweden AB uses hinges in their kitchen cupboards which are too expensive for them. One of the hinges has an opening angle of 130° and the second one has an opening angle of 155°. IKEA have worked with the hinges both externally and internally to try and bring down the costs, preferably by 50%. The hinges are constucted and manufactured in Germany. Purpose: The purpose of the project was to modify an existing hinge with an initial opening position of 130° and to enlarge it to 155° to a lower cost than today. This would give IKEA the opportunity to have only one hinge to kitchen cupboards in their assortment. Methods: This project has been done according to Dynamic Produkt & Process Development (DPD): brainstorming, benchmarking, modulating, CAD, prototype. Result: A functioning prototype of a hinge with an opening angle of 155° has been done.
