Abstract [sv]
This phenomenological study describes nurses´ experiences of beeing needed when working with premature babies in neonatal care. Fourteen nurses were interviewed and asked to describe what it means to be needed in neonatal care. Five themes emerged: Caring for the baby; Developing a Helping- Trusting Relationship with Parents; Establishing a Balance; Being a “Spider in the Net”; Developing the Care and the Caring Profession. The essence of the phenomenon of being needed is identified as Being close to and Caring for Baby. Responsibilities of the neonatal nurse for establishing effective relationships with parents, and for coordination infant care is discussed from a holistic perspective.
