English Epithets Sell Better: A brief study of English loans in Swedish newspaper advertisments

Abstract [en]
English loans occuring in advertisments in two Swedish daily newspapers were investigated. Findings concluded that English loans do appear but in minute quantities. Hybrid forms of loans are common as is pseudo language. English epithets are preffered as trade names for a wide range of products with sportswear leading the field. No threat of serious English loan pollution could be concluded by this study.
