Abstract [sv]

The aim of this study was to, within a patientgroup, measure the outcome indicators that throw light on information, continuity, integrity and participation in relation to a professional standard of nursing care. The samples where drawn from two hospitals in Sweden and consisted of patients (n=290) from five general wards and one gynaecological ward. Data were collected by 13 items from the questionnaire, Quality fron the Patients´ Perspective (QPP) in order to measure outcome indicators. The QPP is theory-based and each item was evaluated in two ways by the patients assessment of perceived reality and evaluation of subject importance. The results show that highest quality-value was reached for the questions belonging to the indicator area of integrity, i.e. the perception of being taken seriously and being treated with respect by the staff. The questions dealing with indicator area of continuity, i.e. clarity about which nurse who was responsible for care planning, was resulted in the lowest quality value. The Joint Commission´s 10-steps process were effective to structuring and identified outcome indicators in this study.
