Abstract [sv]
Target 14 of the WHO states that all Member States should have specific programmes which enhance the major roles of the family and other social groups in developing and supporting healthy lifestyles. The purpose of this study was to evaluate conceptions of a primary preventive health-education programme among adolescents. The interviews were analysed using a phenomenographical approach. The result showed four main categories: getting self confidence, feeling affinity, feeling involvement and enhancing competence. The content of the programme made the adolescents consider their way of life both intra- and interpersonally. Human needs could be satisfied in interaction with other people, which gave the adolescents a feeling of affinity. Their involvement was strengthened by their own active participation in and control of the content. They achieved understanding of competence-enhancement by endeavouring to control their own actions. Further studies on adolescents with regard to their conceptions of selfconfidence, affinty, involvement and competence-enhancement in various primary preventive programmes would be of great value to health care research. Intersectional links between the governing bodies involved should be established. This may very well be done as evaluation research.
