Halmstad University, School of Social and Health Sciences (HOS).
1996 (Swedish)Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
Abstract [sv]
Symtoms of nausea and vomiting are common during the first trimester in pregnancy and are used as a diagnostic symtom of pregnancy. Most women have a mild form, Emesis gravidarum, EG, some of the women got a severe and persistent form, Hyperemesis gravidarum, HG. Nothing is found in the literature from these women´s own perspective about experiences and consequenses in daily life of Hyperemesis gravidarium. This study is done for the purpose of improving the understanding of this problem. It is a qualitative research and the method is a case study with a descriptive analysis. Data was gathered by unstructured interwies of two women, one of them twice. The result was presented in three main kategories describing the process in change over time, phases, and lower kategories describing experiences and consequences of HG. HG maked the women lose their independence and suffer physically and existentially. HG influenced the development process of being pregnant. The women described their health more positive than their state. Proposals for further research are testing the phases in caring and testing the results from this study to make them adopted in general. In caring we can use the experiences the women have given us to improve understanding and to give women suffering from HG a better support.
