Abstract [en]
The objectives of this master thesis have been fulfilled by carring out a case study at Scandinavian Airlines Stockholm Sweden. Tje case study has included 31 personal interviews with representatives from SAS as well as Computerised Reservation Systems (CRs) and Travel agents. In addition, an Internetbased customer survey was conducted on SAS´s home page in order to recieve deductive approach. As the research regarding Internet-investments still is limited, aprestudy was carried out as well with two major Swedish companies for a long time established on the World-Wide-Web. The network approach has been used in order to structure the distribution network of SAS, taking CRSs and travel agents into consideration. The aim structuring the distribution network has been to identify the activities and resources taking place in a carrier´s distribution, Thus, the impact of the Internet and its ability to erase or improve activities and increase monetary resourses for the carrier by using a more efficient sales channel has been examined. Consequently the discussion of the carrier´s possibilities of by-pass intermediaries have been performed. The findings from the network analysis were included in a cost-benefit analysis in order to depict how a carrier could assess the investment in an Internet-based distribution channel. OBS!
