Abstract [en]
A specific implementation of a high speed fibre-optic communication concept is described. Some features of the network are timedeterminism, high bandwidth utilisation, and good properties in harsh environments. Wavlength division multiplexing is used to achieve a high communication capacity and time division multiplexing with time-slot memories to achieve time-determinism. The transmission medium consistens of a passive star coupler and a pair of fibres to each node, one from the transmitter and one to the receiver. A computer simulation of the network is done where the concept is tested. To achieve a fast switching between wavelength channels a clockrecovery circuit with a lock-on period of very few bits has been developed and simulated. The thesis also describes the state of the art of optical components for communication systems and the goal of the current research efforts.
