Mäns våld mot kvinnor i nära relationer – och barn som upplever våld: En forsknings- och kunskapsöversikt
Halmstad University, School of Social and Health Sciences (HOS), Center for Social Analysis (CESAM), Social Change, Learning and Social Relations (SLSR).
2008 (Swedish)Report (Other academic)
Abstract [en]

This report presents a summary of Swedish research and knowledge concerning men’s violence against women in intimate relationships. It also discusses children’s experiences of this violence. Various theoretical perspectives on men’s violence are illustrated. A structural perspective on men’s violence is described using concepts like gender, power and normalization of violence. Some interactionist-based theories concerning assaulted women’s resistance are also discussed. The report further gives attention to research about children who have experienced violence against their mothers. Also discussed are particularly vulnerable groups of women (refugees, immigrants, elderly women and women with functional disability).

Veronika Burcar is a university lecturer at the School of Social and Health Sciences, Halmstad University. Predominantly she is teaching sociology, social psychology and criminology. She also teaches diversity and culture at the Department of Teacher Education. In 2005 Burcar publicly defended her doctoral dissertation, “Talking about violence: young men's victim narratives”, at Lund University. In a newly published research report, commissioned by Landskrona city council, Burcar is studying safety work in Landskrona city. Her interests within research are mainly violence, victimhood, safety, social deviation, ethnicity and inclusion/exclusion.
