One of the main causes to women gaining weight and stop training is pregnancy. Core
stability is one of the big components when it comes to the balance. A good way to increase
core stability is by pilates.
The purpose in this study is trying to improve the women’s functional core stability, balance
and general wellbeing after pregnancy. The study involves eight postnatal women. A base
program on a swiss ball has been trained during 10 weeks, both pre- and post measurements
have been done.
The results show an improvement of the majority of the women, some of them with a
considerable improvement on the practical tests. The majority of women are feeling better
after the study than before, videlicet the general wellbeing have been improved.
To call it a scientific study we would have needed considerably more trial persons. We would
also have needed a control group to compare the test results and the questionnaire. So for that
reason can we not conclude if the positive results are a natural change after the pregnancy, or
if our choices of exercises during the study actually have given an improved balance and
stability.
