Abstract [sv]

In this report is the degree thesis named Construction and design of a ladder in a truck cabin presented and performed by the students of the program of machine engineering at the University of Halmstad during the spring of 2007.

The degree thesis comprises 10 hp and is an obligatory part of the program of mechanical engineering to achieve a candidate degree of mechanical engineering.

The purpose of the degree thesis is by doing a project that is connected to reality the students get the chance to apply and become engrossed in the knowledge that the students obtained during their education. The project was performed in cooperation with Klippan Safety AB in Klippan where the students were given a project assignment with a character of productdevelopement. The aim with the degree thesis was to develop a new concept solution to get up- and down from the upper bed in truck cabins.

During the project has the model of Fredy Olssons theory of product development being used as guidance. It contains principle construction, primary construction and manufacturing.

The project started with a brief study of the market and what kind of product qualities witch are important for the user. Thereafter several principle solutions were made and evaluated to choose witch one that would be developed further in the primary construction. The assignment proceeded with developing functional solutions for the chosen principle.

The result of the project was a new conceptual solution of a collapsible ladder with is to be assembled into a rail underneath the upper bed. It allows one hand socket and takes up a diminutive/little amount of place in the truck cabin. The fact that the ladder must be able to be assembled in all customers’ truck cabins of Klippans Safety, the concepts idea is build on a module system where the length of the ladder easily can be varied. To be able to se how the concept will work in practice, a functional model was manufactured. Trough visual propositions the future appearance of the product is shown in its accurate environment.

The result of project became a concept that was handed over to the company and it is suppose to act as a good foundation for continued development work. The expectation is that Klippan Safety AB will continue to work with the concept.
