Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The purpose of the study was to investigate how educators talk about relationships within the preschool environment and to identify the discourses that emerge in the educators’ conversations about relationships between educators and children. Qualitative focus group methods have been used for data collection, of which seven educators participated. Discourse analysis was used as a theoretical and methodological framework and discourse psychology was applied to analyze the language and discourse of the educators. Since discourse analysis is closely related to social constructionism, this perspective is also included in the study. The results of the study show that the educators talk about relationships as a basic prerequisite for both human existence and pedagogical work. The results also show that constructions of relationships in preschool are characterized by statements of personal commitment and moral duty. The conclusion drawn in this study is that the discourses make visible a more existential and holistic view of relationships in preschool.
