The purpose of the study is to investigate the importance of play for multilingualchildren's language development in preschool. This play takes place throughsociodramatic play intervention. Our research aims to answer the following questions:"In what ways can adults benefit children's participation in sociodramatic playintervention through scaffolding?" How can multilingual children benefit from thesociodramatic play intervention to increase their ability to verbally engage ininteraction with others?”. It is a qualitative study based on the socio-culturalperspective. The study was conducted at a multicultural preschool in southern Swedenand included participant observation with supplementary video recording. Five childrenparticipated aged 4–5 years. The collected material was transcribed and analyzed usinginteraction analysis. The results showed that adult support in play favors children'schance to express themselves verbally. Educators' guidance improves children'slanguage skills and interactions with other children. The study's conclusion is that thesociodramatic play intervention is crucial for multilingual children's verbal developmentand support from a teacher or another child in play is also crucial. A stimulating playenvironment increases children's verbal engagement and language development, whichunderlines the importance of play in educational practice.
