Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The aim of this study was to investigate whether there is a relationship between the number of female board members and the quantity of GRI indicators reported by Swedish companies in the textile and fashion industry. A quantitative method was employed, utilizing content analysis to examine sustainability reports from 39 companies according to GRI guidelines. These companies operated in the textile and fashion industry, and their sustainability reporting was analyzed over a three-year period. Hypotheses were tested using multiple regression analysis.

Two out of five hypotheses was accepted, revealing a pattern in the selection of GRI indicators reported by companies. An increase in the proportion of indicators reported was seen over the years studied. The remaining hypotheses were rejected. These hypotheses were related to company revenue, the critical mass of three women, and the relationship between female board members and the proportion of GRI indicators.

Suggestions for further research include studying company sustainability reporting from a qualitative perspective to gain deeper insights. Other suggestions include examining company sustainability reports from a broader perspective, as GRI is only a part of companies' overall sustainability reporting.
