Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to investigate what is crucial for the use of weather protection and its effects when building with CLT (cross-laminated timber). The study was conducted through literature review, site visits, and interviews with representatives from various organizations, including weather protection suppliers, CLT producers, installers, and Skanska Sverige AB.

These were chosen to highlight perceptions in the field and the effects of identified factors. The authors used a qualitative approach with semi-structured and written interviews. Effective moisture management in CLT constructions is necessary for the building's durability. Weather protection improves the working environment and productivity but requires careful planning for cost-effectiveness. The decision to use weather protection is influenced by cost, client requirements, and climate conditions.

The future development of CLT focuses on making the material more efficient and finding standardized solutions. To decide on weather protection, factors such as moisture issues, working environment, time, cost, climate, project location and scope, and client requirements need to be considered. Collaboration is required to develop adaptable weather protection and more reliable methods to detect microbial growth. Quality and well-being should be prioritized as highly as cost, although cost will always be a significant part of the decision. By following up on reference projects, decisions can be based on facts and experience to achieve more sustainable construction projects.
