Background: Obesity is a chronic disease and a growing problem insociety. Obesity is increasing in children, while a great stigma remains insociety. School nurses have an important role in seeing students withobesity to offer support. Purpose: Was to study school nurses' experience oftalking about obesity with high school students. Method: A qualitativemethod with an inductive approach was used. Eight school nurses atmunicipal high schools in Halland were selected and interviewed. Results:The results revealed three categories: The importance of creating arelationship, Need for conversation strategies and Challenges in theconversation, as well as eight subcategories. Obesity is a sensitive subjectand the most important thing in the conversation with the student is to createtrust to establish a relationship in the long term, which is the basis for beingable to talk about healthy lifestyle changes. Clearer guidelines and supportmaterials are needed to promote conversations about obesity with students.Conclusion: Fear of enforcing stigma may be a reason why school nursesavoid informing about obesity, unless the student requests it. The studyshows that more support material is required for school nurses to discussobesity without the influence of stigmatization.
