Bakgrund: Bröstcancer är den vanligaste cancerformen för kvinnor. Dödligheten för bröstcancer har minskat sedan 1970-talet samtidigt som prevalensen har ökat i samband med förbättrad diagnotisering som resulterar i att många får diagnos tidigt i sjukdomsförloppet. Livskvaliteten kan påverkas negativt hos patienter med bröstcancer och därför behövs en omvårndad som beaktar hela patienten. Genom att undersöka sjuksköterskors erfarenheter av att ge omvårdnad vid bröstcancer kan styrkor och svagheter identifieras i den egna professionen, vilket har betydelse i att utveckla yrkeskompetensen och bedriva en mer evidensbaserad vård. Syfte: Syftet var att belysa sjuksköterskors erfarenheter av omvårdnaden av patienter med bröstcancer. Metod: En allmän litteraturstudie baserad på tio vetenskapliga artiklar. Artiklarna bearbetades och analyserades vilket resulterade i tre huvudkategorier. Resultat: Huvudkategorierna var "Emotionella erfarenheter", "Betydelsen av kunskap, kompetens och utbildning" samt "Erfarenheter av samtalets betydelse". Konklusion: Sjuksköterskor upplevde det både positivt och negativt att vårda patienter med bröstcancer. De upplevde att emotionella utmaningar samt bristande kunskap och kompetens utgjorde ett hinder för att kunna ge en god och säker vård. Det behövs en djupare förståelse för sjuksköterskans perspektiv på möjligheter och hinder för att kunna vidareutveckla omvårdnaden och höja vårdkvalitén.

Background: Breast cancer is the most common cancer form in women. The mortality for breast cancer has decreased since the 1970s while the prevalence has increased, which associates to development in diagnosis which has resulted in many getting the diagnosis in the early stages of the disease. The quality of life can be negatively affected in patients with breast cancer and therefore there is a need for care that takes regard to the whole patient. Strenghts and weaknesses can be identified by exploring nurses' experiences of providing breast cancer care in the own profession, which has importance in developing the professional competence and conducting a more evidence-based care. Aim: The aim was to highlight nurses' experiences of caring for patients with breast cancer. Method: A literature review based on ten scientific articles. The articles were processed and analyzed which generated in three main categories. Results: The main categories were "Emotional experiences", "The significance of knowledge, competence and education" and "Experiences of the importance of dialogues". Conclusion: Nurses experienced both positive and negative aspects of caring for patients with breast cancer. They experienced that emotional challenges and lack of knowledge and competence hindered the ability to provide a good and safe care. There is a deeper need for understanding the nurse's perspective on possibilites and obstacles to further develop and increase the quality of care.
