The nurse’s health-promoting nursing measures for relativesof people with Parkinson’s disease : A literature review (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Background: Relatives often have a central role when people with Parkinson's are cared for at home. When relatives become informal caregivers, they may experience a burden called caregiver burden, which can manifest itself in the form of anxiety or depression. The mental and emotional health of relatives can be negatively affected when a close relative suffers from Parkinson's disease. Aim: To describe how the nurse can promote the health of relatives of people with Parkinson's disease. Method: Literature overview with an inductive approach, where ten result articles were included. Results: The results were presented in four different overall categories: take on a supportive role, strengthen contact with care, promote self-care and contribute to knowledge. Each overall category was then presented with the respective subcategories. The results showed various nursing measures that are important for promoting the health of relatives. Conclusion: The nurse has a central role in promoting the health of relatives through various nursing measures. Because relatives often experience constant anxiety and stress due to their lack of knowledge, they need support in the form of, for example, emotional and professional support. By promoting the health of relatives, the nurse contributes to the person with Parkinson's obtaining a good quality of life.
