Abstract [sv]

Aim: The aim was to illustrate how motivation for patients with diabetes mellitus type 2 is related with physical activity. Method: The study was conducted as a general literature study using an inductive approach. The study was based on ten result articles and the result was concluded and condensed into categories. Results: The results of the literature study were structured in two headlines: Motivation for physical activity and Barriers for physical activity. The outcomes indicate that the key success factors to follow recommendations on physical activity were self-motivation and social support. The main barriers were lack of progress and unattainable goals that negatively affected motivation. Conclusion: Motivation was the key success factor for whether a patient would succeed in maintaining physical activity and various factors were identified that affected motivation. Social support was seen as a positive factor and unattainable goals as a negative factor.
