Abstract [en]

All students are, by Swedish law, entitled to education that is differentiated based on their individual needs. Before we conducted this literary review, we experienced a lack of knowledge and education on the topic. The aim of this literary review is thus to investigate what research says about teachers’ differentiated mathematics education for gifted students. From this aim, a research question was formed:

- What can teachers do to support and differentiate teaching for gifted students in mathematics?

Various methods of differentiation for gifted students were found, some of these were problem solving, accelerated learning and enrichment. Further findings were that assessment, teacher co-operation and mathematical competence were important perspectives on successful differentiation in mathematics education for gifted students. Although we found numerous ways to differentiate mathematics education for gifted students, we also found that lack of time and knowledge were a hindrance for teachers in their work to create differentiated mathematics education for gifted students.
