Abstract [en]

The project group consists of Lisa Blomstrand and Jack Wilhelmsson, both of whom have a great passion and interest in professions that concern human health. It was from this interest the idea of Secure Embrace came to life.

In Sweden, accidents where people suffer from neck and back injuries occur on a daily basis. In the event of an accident it is the ambulance staffs’ primary task to relieve the patients’ pain and protect the injured spine. The products available in the rescue industry today are scoop stretchers made of hard plastic, this will lead to pressure damage after only a short period of time lying on it. These injuries can lead to severe pain for several weeks after receiving them.

When using a stretcher without the scoop effect, you will have to move the patient more than necessary to be able to get them up on the stretcher. This, however, is not good when working with people who suffer from neck and spine injuries, instead you want the patient to be as immobilized as possible on the stretcher. Our purpose with the project was to help these people, to minimize the risk of pressure injuries and to stabilize the patient in a better way on the stretcher as it reduces the risk of further damage to the neck and spine. The project group has collaborated with a company called Germa AB and continued to develop the existing scoop stretcher and combined two products in one. The combination consists of the existing scoop stretcher on the market today and a vacuum mattress. This product will solve the problem of pressure injuries and provide the patient a much more secure and comfortable transport to the hospital.

The ambition of the project has been to produce a product that really makes a difference when it comes to life and death.
