The purpose of the thesis is to examine the image of farm workers in the magazine Landtmannen from a class and gender perspective and how farmers' attitudes and opinions towards their employees, the farm workers, have changed over time. How is the image of farm workers presented from a class and gender perspective? How have attitudes and opinions towards farm workers changed during the period 1890-1939? To answer the questions, a qualitative text analysis of articles in the magazine Landtmannen is used. The magazine Landtmannen – Svenskt land – tidskrift för Landtmän was first published in 1890 and later also served as a body for Sweden’s General Agricultural Society, S.A. L. The result of the analysis is that the class concept permeates almost the entire investigation period, but that there is a change in how farmers talk about class in the articles. On the other hand, it is not possible to explain any difference over time in how farmers view women. The gender perspective does not change as farmers continued to look at the woman exclusively as an extra resource alongside the man.
