Swedish female elite golfers’ experiences of a dualcareer (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The purpose of the study was to explore Swedish female elite golfers’ experiences of a dual career. The study included 8 interviewees, women aged 19–29 (M = 25, SD = 3.25), where all participants have experience combining elite golf and higher studies. In the study, two focusgroup interviews were conducted and were based on the career transition model. All participants have been active in golf for at least 9 years (M = 14.75, SD = 4.5). The results were analyzed by a qualitative content analysis based on the athletic career transition modeland divided into eight categories based on the theoretical concepts of challenges, resources, obstacles and coping strategies. An overview of the results is presented in Appendix 1. The results show that the participants experience several different challenges, where one of the most common challenge was the lack of time in the balance between different parts of life. According to the participants, the support of golf friends and the freedom to plan their time are significant resources. The perceived barriers that were considered to inhibit development refer to a lack of recovery and a lack of finances. To manage the dual career, several copingstrategies were used, the most important of which relates to planning and structuring. The study results are consistent with previous research and generate what experiences are included for Swedish elite female golfers who are pursuing a dual career. Some of the interesting results in the study were that a long golf career was considered both positive and negative andt hat a summer sport as golf facilitated the dual career.
