The purpose of this study was to understand different views of low and high voter participation from a local perspective, focusing on the Swedish municipalities of Halmstad and Laholm. The design of the paper was a comparable case study using a qualitative approach to understand different views and thoughts of low and high voter participation. The result showed that the two municipalities varied in views of voter participation. Different views turned out to emerge and generate even lower voter participation. The greatest reason why the voter participation was low, were because of the amount of immigrants in segregated areas. Laholm did not have as much to say about the issue about low voter participation, which can be problematic in the future since Laholm, as many other Swedish municipalities has received a great amount of immigrants the past years.
