Abstract [sv]
Knowledge Management (KM) started to develop in the early nineties and has continued to grow as a concept for the ambition to codify, store, handle and distribute knowledge within an organization. The reason for the increasing interest for the area depends on the fact that several companies have a big part of their assets consisting of knowledge. Also due to the fact that during the period of big redundancy of personnel within the industry in the eighties, a lot of important knowledge was lost when personnel left the organizations. KM could be the only possibility to keep the knowledge lead as a competitiveness advantages on today’s markets. It’s obvious that the company of today need knowledge about their market, engineering, products and customers. A relevant question is how do the companies collect, distribute and refine knowledge in order to get a knowledge lead on the market? The purpose of this thesis is to investigate if and how small and medium sized enterprises (SME) apply KM and identify relevant KM-activities.
