Abstract [en]
The use of discourse markers and other so-called unnecessary words are increasing more and more, especiallu among adolescents. My essay is about the various uses of discourse markers in informal speech. Sonce discourse markers are mainly found in the speech of teenagers I decided to use the t.v. show Friends för my analysis. The essay is concentrated on the discourse markers like, just and y´know. The aim of this stydy was to fing out the different meanings and functions of the three discourse markers. In order to do this investigation I have used previous studies as a guide and compared the different uses just, like and y´know to my results.
