Many species of amphibians are threatened both in Sweden and globally. The causes are many and a main factor is habitat alterations which often results in populations being isolated. Changes in the agricultural landscape have among other things resulted in small water bodies being filled and dried out and that has severely affected the Swedish amphibians. Swedish amphibians are depended upon small water bodies for their reproduction. Wetlands have been constructed to reduce the impacts of the eutrophication in the Laholm bay. In my study I have chosen to examine the composition of amphibian species in 34 of those newly constructed wetlands. Netting is the method that has been used to find the animals but there have also been visual observations. The inventories took place during spring and summer year 2006. The study has been carried out in the municipality of Laholm and has proven that colonization can proceed rapidly. All of the wetlands had been colonized and the youngest wetland was only 15 months old at the first inventory. All of the five amphibian species that according to the literature could be represented were also found during the inventories. In one wetland all five species were found. In my study I found out that presence of crayfish had a negative impact on amphibians. Amphibians were reproducing in all wetlands and many of the wetlands did also contribute with a healthy environment since the offspring could develop and finally get up on land.
