Abstract [sv]

The objective of this was to describe how the voluntary organisations are involved in the old-age care in Halmstad. What is the relationship between the local government and the organisations and how does the organisations part in society? By interviewing persons from the local government the voluntary organisations and the federation of the communal workers, I obtained a wide perspective of how it is working. I consumed two different kinds of theories, the institutional failure theory and the contextual organisation theory. My conclusion were that the relationship between the local government and the voluntary organisations are very close and harmonic. The organisations act as a completment to the local government and this also seems to me ideal situation according to the interviewed persons. In general the voluntary organisations work has a very high quality standard although one problem is, according to themselves, a lack continuity in the activity. Neither the institutional failure nor the contextual organisation theories can be applied alone in order to describe the voluntary organisations part and upcoming. The best model is obtained when a mixture of the two theories are used.
