Abstract [sv]
Caring in the ambulatory nursing care has, so far, been less underestimated. As out-patient treatment has become more common, especially in pediatric care, it was considered important to investigate how the children experienced the meeteing with the nurses. The purpose of this study was investigate whether the patient in ambulatory pediatric care has a feeling of security in his/her meeting with the nurses in spite of the short durability of the meeting. The notion of security was defined. The meetings and their contents were studied in literature and reports. Eight children were observed in an pediatric out-patient department during their meeting with the nurses. The experience of the children were interpreted from the observations. The child´s experience from the meeting was described by the nurses and the parents. Each child was asked to draw a picture illustrating the impression of the meeting. The words of experience that appeared were divided into three categories: positive, neutral and negative words. The interpretation made by the observer and the descriptions made by the parent and the nurse were compared respectively for each child. The positive words dominated. The children experienced confidence in their meeting. It was clear that the meeting took place not only between the child and the nurse, but included the parent also. Children and parents did not differ between the nurses on the one hand and doctors and secretaries on the other. It was obvious that the nurses had a hidden knowledge in caring, that should be noticed and recognized. This demands more education in the science of caring. In order to develop confident meetings it is desirable to continue the research in this field.
