Abstract [en]

During the third year of the innovation engineering program at Halmstad University the students have a project towards product development and innovation. This project spans over the course of the whole year and the goal is to use and implement everything that they have learned in to one project. This project is made in collaboration with a company called The Loop Factory AB and they are located in Varberg, Sweden.   The project started with a process that The Loop Factory AB have worked on for a couple of years called the Nowa packaging. Nowa packaging is a newly developed packaging technique which have an energy efficient production of compression molded packages made of cellulose fibers. The project group joined a workshop held by for master students in innovation and organisation at Halmstad University and The Loop Factory AB to understand what the process were capable of. This combined with brainstorming kickstarted the project and different ideas of what kind of product to develop popped up. After an evaluation of different branches and segments the group decided to make an ice cream package that could compete with the plastic packages that are on the market today. Research and discussions with people on the market and experts led to the making of a prototype. The purpose of this prototype is to show companies in the ice cream business that the process works for their products. Before the project started either The Loop Factory AB nor the project group knew what the process was capable of doing and there were moments of doubt about how the lid would fit. In addition, if the pressing of the quiet deep package would work. After an evaluation of different solutions and designs with the help of 3D printing, CAD-drawings and discussion a prototype was made. This was a real challenge, but the outcome was even better than expected.
