Abstract [en]
A study challenging the thesis that women must become more man-like in order to succeed in a man's field of dominance. The views on masculinity and femininity have always been that one can only been either/or, rather than a little bit of both, and that the former belongs solely to men while the other is a female trait of character. Many fantasy works have been known to stay true to these stereotypes about “masculine” and “feminine” respectively, and since David Eddings in turn has been said to be a “stereotype” fantasy author in the sense that his works have all the classical fantasy features, five of his books were chosen as the subject of study. Four of the female protagonists were then studied as they ventured into traditional “man-territory” in order to investigate whether or not they were able to have a stereotypically “masculine” occupation while still being stereotypically “feminine”.
