Abstract [sv]

The purpose of this questionnaire study on 187 top athletes is to find out how much knowledge these athletes have about determining factors for their performance such as physical-, psychological-, social- etc. The purpose is also to find out if they are interested in receiving education in these subjects. The results indicated a high level of knowledge but also a big interest for further education. The most extensive knowledge was related to the training- and competition situations, for exampel physical training, rules, game knowledge, tactics etc. They also knew a lot about some areas concerning nutrition and about some psychological issues like self confidence, goals, motivation and team spirit. It was astonishing that a lot of these particular issues were the ones that the athletes also prioritised education within (physical training, nutritious build-up and recovering, game knowledge, self confidence, goals, motivation, concentration, injurys and recovering). Further the men showed a deeper knowledge in general while the women seemed to have a greater interest in further education.
