Identity as Illusion: A Deconstructive Reading of Edward Albee´s Who´s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?
Högskolan i Halmstad, Sektionen för humaniora (HUM).
2000 (engelsk)Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Oppgave
Abstract [en]
In Edward Albee´s Who´s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, the characters have lost their connection with an inner life; they rely instead on social roles which take them further away from understanding themselves. This essay, Identity as illusion, is an attempt to make sense of the character´s somewhat irrational behaviours, and also an attempt to find their real selves. The essay deals mostly with the characters Martha and George - and in particular their connection to their imaginary child.
