Abstract [sv]

The background to that children do not use body protectors more frequently is, that they feel uncomfortable. The task was to analyse and describe the demands on a body protector which is designed for children at the age of 6 to 12 years. A survey among 150 children at riding schools showed that is difficult for many children to find a body protector that fits correctly. EMG-measuring and videoanalysis among a small group of young riders pointed to that a body protector perhaps can support muscle activity in the muscles of the back (erector spinae). Studies of reports and statistics about horse-related injuries showed that children more frequently are involved in horse-related accidents than adults but they often suffer injuries of a mild form. In conclusion we found that a body protector for children shall have a back part which is adjustable and shall be soft and flexible around arms and protect effective against stroke and kick.
