Abstract [en]

Abstract Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory systemic disease with symptoms such as joint pain, stiffness, and increased fatigue. RA is an independent risk factor for accelerated atherosclerosis and an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases. National and international guidelines recommend except proper pharmacological treatment also support to achieve and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Few studies have explored healthcare professionals’ views of working with lifestyle management. Aim: To explore healthcare professionals´ experiences of lifestyle management in patients with early RA. Methods: In this explorative qualitative study, individual interviews were conducted with 20 healthcare professionals. Qualitative content analysis was used, where nine subcategories and three categories emerged. Results: Healthcare professionals’ experiences of lifestyle management in patients with early RA included building a well-functioning organization with supportive leadership, a priority of lifestyle management, and competence development in lifestyle management. Coordinate the teamwork was emphasized, including interdisciplinary team, professional expertise in lifestyle habits, and a structured approach to lifestyle management. The healthcare professionals also highlighted providing person-centered care with individually tailored lifestyle management, shared decision-making, and patient engagement. Conclusions: Healthcare professionals’ experiences of lifestyle management in patients with early RA indicate that commitment from both the management, the team, and the patient is important.
