Adela Quested and the Woman’s Voice in British India: A Study of Characterisation through Plot in E. M. Forster’s A Passage to India
Halmstad University, School of Humanities (HUM).
2006 (English)Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
Abstract [en]
Adela Quested a hysterical, unattractive woman or a strong female force? A study of the other characters tells us more about this brave woman. She, a New Woman, an individualist and also well educated, feels trapped in a patriarchal society upon her arrival to British India. However, her strong personality forces the other characters to develop and also to see her as someone instead of no one; which is their initial view upon her as she is not considered as a beauty.
