Abstract [sv]
This project aim is to investigate if optical motion sensors placed in computer mice can be used to measure a velocity and decode bar codes. Two different kinds of serial communications have been used. The SIO* interface between the controller and the sensor and the RS232 interface were used between the computer and the controller to present the velocity on a computer monitor. A testing platform was built to preserve a constant environment. The velocity could now be measured to 1 m/s with two decimals accuracy with a program that calculated mean value. Later in the study a median program was developed that was able to measure a velocity up to 1,5 m/s. This is a cheap touchless velocity sensor when the velocity is below 1,5 m/s and a constant distance at 2,4 mm can be kept. The serial communication speed for ADNS-3060 is not adequate for the information needed to decode the bar code with a controller. It is not possible to decode a 40 mm bar code at 1 m/s.
