Generative roof rail model in Catia V5
Halmstad University, School of Business and Engineering (SET).
2003 (English)Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
Abstract [en]
The dissertation project is done in collaboration with Volvo Information Technology and Volvo Exterior. The task is to bring forward a fully working model of a roof rail made in Catia V5. To save working hours in the development process of a car the model should be reusable and automatically updated when replacing the roof surface. That is called the model is generative. Furthermore it should be parameterised for easy use. Since there isn’t much previous research done in this field, the work is mainly done by ”trial and error”. The way of working is presented in the report as well as the description of how to use the model. The result of the project is two types of models: -One CATProduct that can be used for tailoring a complete roof rail model. -One CATProduct that is easy modifiable, used when performing aerodynamical tests, only made of styling surfaces. All CATParts in the Products can be modified with parameters and are fully generative. The models are intended to be used as bases for the roof rails in the development process of a car.
