Abstract [sv]

Distance education becomes more and more common at Swedish universities. The idea behind EXPO was to create a user-friendly, web based application that makes distance examination easier and more convenient for both teachers and students and that can easily be reached via a link on the course’s homepage. The central feature in the examination portal is a question database that contains examination questions divided into different topics and grades of difficulty. These questions can be combined into exams or a collection of exercises for practising. Even information about students, staff, courses and results are stored in a database. With the EXPO-system it is possible for the teacher to compose and mark an exam directly on the Internet. Multiple choice questions are marked and graded automatically by the system. Students can log onto their personal sites on the Internet where they can write an exam, look at the result and receive feedback. EXPO was implemented in JSP, HTML and Javascript and realized with as SQL Server 2000 database and an Apache Tomcat 4.0 JSP-server.
