Abstract [en]

This study is a conversation analysis which focuses on three main areas: 1) interruptions, 2) topic control and dominance in a conversation and 3) ‘powerless language’. The aim of the study is to investigate the different roles men and women play when interacting in cross-sex and same-sex conversations concentrating on interruptions, topic control and dominance in a conversation and ‘powerless language’. The primary material used in the analysis in this study are sequences from the TV show ’Friends’.
