Title [en]
International growth in the healthcare technology sector - The importance of entrepreneurial teams and local and global networks
Abstract [en]
The aim of this programme is to develop a better understanding of how the international expansion of small companies is related to growth. We will study companies that belong to the healthcare technology sector regarding their international growth. Our pilot study shows the importance of individuals with different competences within the company, and how they complement and integrate with different actors outside the company. We will investigate how different individuals cooperate and affect the company?s international growth. The pilot study shows the importance of relations outside the company. Both informal and formal networks? influence on companies? international growth will be studied. Methodologically, case studies will be used to investigate the extreme cases that companies with fast international growth imply as well as quantitative methods to identify clusters of companies with similar international growth strategies. The project is included in an international study where international growth companies in different countries will be compared. Theoretically the study aims at contributing to the field of international entrepreneurship, where the research group is well established. Previous studies have challenged the traditional theory that has toned down the importance of individuals/entrepreneurs. Our aim is to contribute to theory-building by combining international growth, entrepreneurial teams, as well as formal and informal networks within this industry.
