    Abstract [en]

Overweight and obesity are on the rise worldwide which means that nurses will regularly encounter larger patients in their caring work. People with overweight or obesity often experience prejudice from both society and medical staff, which can lead to stigmatisation and feelings of guilt. Research shows that the weight loss methods endorsed by medical professionals does not work for everyone and that metabolism rates were effected by radical changes in weight. The aim of the review was to illustrate Health At Every Size (HAES) as an alternative approach when caring for patients with overweight or obesity in order bring focus to all the gradual lifestyle changes that the patient can do rather than setting unrealistic goals.  The method uses was a general literature study with an inductive approach. The result identified four themes, effects on eating, effects on general wellbeing, effects on the body and meeting healthcare. Use of the HAES-model led to that people with overweight and obesity generally had a positive effect on body image, felt a greater sense of wellbeing, developed better eating habits and felt less threatened by physical exercise. The method did not lead to any weight loss but neither did participants gain weight. The majority of articles found used a quantitative approach and more qualitative research is needed on the subject in order to gain a better understanding of patients’ experiences of the approach and the field in all requires more longitudal research in order to better see the long term effects.

En känsla av trygghet- patienters perspektiv inom palliativ vård i hemmet: En litteraturstudie2020Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Background: In the case of illness, there is a feeling of vulnerability and a lack of control in the patient, which is why it is important that health care professionals create security by listening and participating in the care in the home. Aim: The aim was to describe what was important for patients experience of security in connection with palliative care in the home. Method: The literature study was conducted with an inductive approach, the results were based on ten qualitative studies. Results: Data processing resulted in two themes: the importance of palliative care in the home environment and the importance of a good relationship between health care staff and the patient. The result showed that patients wanted to be home at the end of their lives, where there was a closeness to family and relatives. Continuity and accessibility of caregivers contributed to a secure relationship where caregivers were familiar with the patient's situation. The feeling of security was felt by the patient when they were allowed to participate in the care and that the care staff met the patient ́s need for aids. Conclusion: Close relationship between patient and health care was crucial for safe and good care. It was important to have a person-centered care to see the individual needs of each patient, see the entire patient and not just the disease.

Sjuksköterskors behov av stöd i samband med orosanmälan vid misstanke om att barn far illa: En litteraturstudie2020Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Children around the world suffer from abuse such as physical, psychological and sexual violence and neglect. Nurses meet children and adults in families in their work where children have been harmed or are at risk of harm. Nurses have an ethical responsibility and duty to report when children are at risk of harm in a report of concern. Although there are ethical codes and an obligation to report, there are circumstances that affect nurses to not always make a report when a child is at risk. The aim of this literature study was to investigate what support nurses need to make a proper report of concern, when there is a suspicion of a child at risk. The study revealed that nurses need emotional, informative and instrumental support to make a complaint. Nurses demand support through knowledge, which can be obtained through education, in order to identify children who are at risk of harm. In addition, organizational support and a good cohesion within a multidisciplinary team is of great importance in promoting nurses' handling of a report of concern, where everyone in healthcare can reflect and share knowledge with each other. Nurses' own upbringing and individual judgement of norms and values have an impact in their decision of what is acceptable in an adult / child relationship, which affect the application process. As a result, nurses need support so that they share the same base of values and duties towards the child and the offender.

Livskvalité vid långvarig smärta2020Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
