Kvinnors upplevelser av akuta koronara syndrom2020Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

In 2030 cardiovascular diseases is expected to be the leading cause of death in the world amongst both men and women. Women tend to show a greater variation of symtoms in the event of acute coronary syndromes which risk creating confusion and misinterpretation. Through increased knowledge amongst women and acute coronary syndromes is given the opportunity for better care, nursing and medical results for women and their experience of acute coronary syndromes.

The aim of the study was to highlight women ́s experiences of acute coronary syndrome. The literature study was made from 11 scientific original articles about women ́s experiences with acute coronary syndromes. These were examined and compiled and gave the studies result that generated two main categories: Experiences of acute coronary syndromes during illness and Experiences of acute coronary syndromes after illness. The results shows that women’s experiences of acute coronary syndrome differ from the traditional view of how acute coronary syndrome presents, which leads to women experiencing difficulties in interpreting and acting on their symptoms. The results also show that many women who have experienced acute coronary syndrome describe an increased need for support during the work on re- adjusting to everyday life, as well as how the diagnosis helps for a new perspective on life, health and wellbeing.

Osynligt märkt: En litteraturstudie om hälso- och sjukvårdspersonalens upplevelser av att vårda patienter med borderline personlighetsstörning2020Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Background: Borderline personality disorder is a complex diagnosis that can also cause a number of comorbidity´s such as depression and anxiety. The patient group emphasizes the importance of respect, understanding and confirmation in the meeting with health care professionals. It also emerges that patients with borderline personality disorder experience stigmatization and discrimination from different contexts in society, including from healthcare professionals. Objective: The purpose of the literature study was to elucidate the health professionals' experiences that can explain the perceived stigmatizaton of patients with borderline personality disorder. Method: A general literature study. Results: Negative attitudes of health professionals are identified in the interaction with patients with borderline personality disorder. It appears that there is a lack of knowledge and guidelines in the care of the patient group. Healthcare professionals also express fears and anxieties as well as irritation and frustration in the care relationship. Conclusion: Healthcare professionals and nurses in particular argue that lack of education and guidelines make it difficult in the interactions with patients with borderline personality disorder. Feelings of vulnerability and fear commented due patients' manipulative and attention-seeking behaviors. Even irritation and frustration were something personal group experienced when the treatment process went very slow and occasionally stood still.

Vad upplever patienten som tröst vid livshotande cancersjukdom: En litteraturstudie2020Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Background: Today, more people survive their cancer diagnosis as a result of improved biomedical technology. In 2018, the National Board of Health reported that 63,000 individuals were affected by malignant cancer. This is a major national health problem and places high demands on health care and hospitals. Cancer means physical and mental distress for the patient and is the basis for comforting nursing. However, comfort has been questioned as a nursing measure and whether it is a task that the nurse should perform. Aim: The aim was to enlighten what patients experience as comforting in a life-threatening cancer decease. Method: A general literature study with10 scientific articles, nine with qualitative approach and one with quantitative approach. Reviewed and analyzed by using Fribergs five step model (Friberg, 2017). The articles have been reviewed in accordance with Carlsson och Eimans (2003) schedule for review. Result: Consolation is multi-dimensional and subjective. Communication, education and person-centered care were important for the patient to receive comfort. Other factors that allowed the patient comfort was interaction with the nurse, spiritual presence and hope. Conclusion: Important relationships gave the patient consolation and hope. The relationship between spiritual precence and other close relations fortified eachother. Communication and interaction with the nurse and other health care professionals was important in obtaining a better quality of life and finding a way to consolation. When the patient felt comfortable and clean in his or her body, the patient could feel strong and thereby gain future hope and maintained dignity.

Sjuksköterskans uppfattning av patientsäkerhet relaterat till bemanningen av sjuksköterskor: En allmän litteraturstudie2020Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Background: Patient safety is jeopardizing healthcare, one in ten patients suffering due to medical errors could have been avoided if the appropriate actions had been taken. All nursing staff have a shared responsibility to contribute to proper and safe care but it is the nurses who have full responsibility over the patients. Patient safety should be promoted through the patient safety law and the nurse’s six core qualifications. Purpose: The aim was to understand the nurse’s perception of patient safety related to the number of nursing staff. Method: A literature review with an inductive approach was performed. Results: The study is based on ten scientific articles which led to four categories: time affect’s patient safety, the competence of the nurse affects patient safety, work environment affect patient safety and the health of the nurse is affected by defective patient safety. It was found in the result that the nurse’s perception of patient safety is adverse in the context of staffing. The nurse’s perceived time as a major contributing factor to absent care that resulted in poorer patient safety. Conclusion: It is necessary that the appropriate number of nursing staff is present during care. The staff needs to feel safe and secure in their work in order to offer good patient safety. More research is needed in this area to enable a change in patient safety.

Media form and ESL students’ comprehension: A comparative study between audiobooks and printed text2020Independent thesis Advanced level (professional degree), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

This study aims to investigate how the choice of media form, i.e. printed format, audiobook or reading and audio combined, affect the ability of ESL students to achieve comprehension, and how different ways of asking questions can affect their comprehension ability. Lastly, the study aims to investigate the relationship between comprehension and students’ proficiency levels in their L2. To answer this question, 155 students were recruited and divided into three groups and assigned one type of media form. The quantitative data was collected through an online comprehension test and analysed. The results showed a significant difference between the media forms and revealed that printed reading was superior. However, a printed and audio combination was the most time efficient way for students to achieve comprehension, which indicates that the inclusion of audio does not impede student learning. Previous research in the same field shows that the results are inconclusive, but shares one common conclusion, that students enjoy the audio format. As a result, the educational system should make every effort to media choices for students to choose their preferred media, and more research in the field needs to be done, as students enjoyment leads to increased learning.

Är vikten det viktigaste?: Hälsoeffekter av att fokusera på livsstilsförändringar och kroppsbild snarare än viktnedgång hos personer med övervikt och obesitet2020Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Overweight and obesity are on the rise worldwide which means that nurses will regularly encounter larger patients in their caring work. People with overweight or obesity often experience prejudice from both society and medical staff, which can lead to stigmatisation and feelings of guilt. Research shows that the weight loss methods endorsed by medical professionals does not work for everyone and that metabolism rates were effected by radical changes in weight. The aim of the review was to illustrate Health At Every Size (HAES) as an alternative approach when caring for patients with overweight or obesity in order bring focus to all the gradual lifestyle changes that the patient can do rather than setting unrealistic goals.  The method uses was a general literature study with an inductive approach. The result identified four themes, effects on eating, effects on general wellbeing, effects on the body and meeting healthcare. Use of the HAES-model led to that people with overweight and obesity generally had a positive effect on body image, felt a greater sense of wellbeing, developed better eating habits and felt less threatened by physical exercise. The method did not lead to any weight loss but neither did participants gain weight. The majority of articles found used a quantitative approach and more qualitative research is needed on the subject in order to gain a better understanding of patients’ experiences of the approach and the field in all requires more longitudal research in order to better see the long term effects.

Sjuksköterskors behov av stöd i samband med orosanmälan vid misstanke om att barn far illa: En litteraturstudie2020Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Children around the world suffer from abuse such as physical, psychological and sexual violence and neglect. Nurses meet children and adults in families in their work where children have been harmed or are at risk of harm. Nurses have an ethical responsibility and duty to report when children are at risk of harm in a report of concern. Although there are ethical codes and an obligation to report, there are circumstances that affect nurses to not always make a report when a child is at risk. The aim of this literature study was to investigate what support nurses need to make a proper report of concern, when there is a suspicion of a child at risk. The study revealed that nurses need emotional, informative and instrumental support to make a complaint. Nurses demand support through knowledge, which can be obtained through education, in order to identify children who are at risk of harm. In addition, organizational support and a good cohesion within a multidisciplinary team is of great importance in promoting nurses' handling of a report of concern, where everyone in healthcare can reflect and share knowledge with each other. Nurses' own upbringing and individual judgement of norms and values have an impact in their decision of what is acceptable in an adult / child relationship, which affect the application process. As a result, nurses need support so that they share the same base of values and duties towards the child and the offender.

Livskvalité vid långvarig smärta2020Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
