    Abstract [en]

The life of a patient with brain tumor changes drastically. Patients with brain tumors experience that the illness robs them of their independence and life-meaning. The aim of this study was to describe the experiences of the caregiver. The study was conducted as a structured literature study in which ten articles were analyzed with an inductive approach. The literature study resulted in one main category; loneliness, and five subcategories; disorientation, uncertainty, reluctant takeover of power, frustration and longing for support. Caregivers of families with brain tumors showed a great strain when they accepted the caregiving role along with a need for support from friends, family and healthcare professionals. The caregiving role meant not only caring for the sick one, but also shouldering additional responsibility, such as the financials, the household and the family. This literature study shows that when a relative becomes a caregiver to a family member with a brain tumor there could be an existence of loneliness. This loneliness showed itself in many different ways, such as disorientation, uncertainty, reluctant takeover of power, frustration and longing for support. To help caregivers in this situation, care providers’ routines and guidelines on caregiving needs to be improved.

    Abstract [en]

Background: Pelvic floor injuries are common due to vaginal delivery and can cause many troublesome symptoms. The physical symptoms affect women’s well-being and can lead to psychological morbidity. Aim: The aim was to describe the psychological consequences of pelvic floor injuries in relation to childbirth for women. Method: The aim was answered by conducting a general literature study based on nine qualitative articles. The articles were quality-tested and analysed, then one overreaching head category were created and three under categories. Results: The head category was Birth injuries causes psychological suffering, and it’s under categories Feeling guilt and shame, Loss of femininity and sexuality and Disappointment with the lack of information and support in healthcare. Women experienced psychological consequences such as shame, anxiety, hopelessness, depression and post-traumatic stress syndrome, secondary to pelvic floor injuries. It was also found that women didn’t receive the care they needed and felt that healthcare professionals neglected them and caused further psychological distress. Conclusion: The general literature study contributes to an increased understanding of how pelvic floor injuries affect women’s mental well-being. There is a need for development of guidelines as to monitoring and treatment of birth injuries. Further research is needed on how pelvic floor injuries and secondary to it psychological trauma can be prevented, repaired, treated and rehabilitated.

    Abstract [en]

Background Fear of childbirth is a phenomenon that has been made known over time and which, according to research from 1981, 1998 and 2009 has increased over the years. The occurrence, degree of fear and experience of fear differ amongst women. The encounter with a woman who are afraid of childbirth can happen everywhere in the health care system, so it is of great importance that general nurses possess this knowledge of the encounter with scared and worried women. Aim The aim of this study was to shed light on women's experiences of fear of childbirth from a patient perspective. Method The method used was a general literature study. Result The result is divided into a qualitative and a quantitative result. The qualitative result is based on two main categories; feeling of concern and encounter. Four subcategories were identified; unpredictability and pain as well as dialogue and trust. The quantitative result is based on reasons that are considered to contribute to women's fear, which later were matched to the different categories. Conclusion Fear of childbirth is a problem that imprint women's experience and management of pregnancy and childbirth. It was identified that the most common factor behind the fear is based on a feeling of worry and a negative perceived encounter. Important aspects that were considered to reduce fear were a well-established dialogue, information and mutual trust.

    Abstract [en]

In Sweden, myocardial infarction is the most common cause of death. Knowledge about experiences of myocardial infarction in various patient-groups is lacking in both the general public, patients and healthcare professionals. The lack of knowledge is partly due to the fact that preconceptions about how a heart attack should feel and how the actual experience is experienced, do not agree. A registered nurse should educate and support knowledge in patients as well as relatives and other professional professions. The nurse should also work to establish, maintain and apply and provide equal care. Aim: The aim was to illustrate women and men’s experiences of myocardial infarction. Method: A general literature study was conducted. Ten articles were analyzed based of a content analysis. Results: Four main categories emerged: (1) varied symptom description, (2) lack of knowledge about myocardial infarction, (3) fear and uncertainty and (4) varying trust in healthcare, with associated subcategories: women and men. The literature study showed that experiences of myocardial infarction could be both similar and various among women and men. Conclusion: Individualized care and high knowledge appeared to be central parts for the proper assessment of patients with heart disease. It was found that uncertainty or lack of knowledge characterized the patients' experience of myocardial infarction, which linked how a patient acted in relation to the condition.

    Abstract [en]

Background: The nurse is largely responsible of drug management, thus one important factor that the nurse should consider within the drug management should be the patient safety aspect. The aim was to identify factors risking the patient safety in the nurse’s drug management. The method used was a literature study. The study was conducted by a critical review of relevant literature and scientific research. The results describe factors that cause, risk or contribute to unsafe drug management. From 11 scientific articles the following theme was designed: Nurse’s handlingImpact of the work environment and Contributing organizational factors. The nurse’s unfavorable work environment, an inadequate number of patients per nurse, as well as long work sessions and several shifts per month are factors that cause unsafe drug management. Nurses should possess the ability to handle stressful situations and be able to interpret unclear prescriptions. Interruptions during the preparation of medicines is an obstacle to the safety during drug handling. Conclusion: Factors that was identified in the literature study were found in different layers by the healthcare organization. The identified factors show improvement areas in individual and organizational levels in order to maintain patient safety.

Att använda opioider: Opioidanvändande och opioidberoende personers upplevelser av mötet med vården2020Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Opioid addiction is a public health problem and the consumption of opioids is constantly increasing. An addiction can develop after using opioids regularly and can be recognized by cognitive and physiological characteristics. A person's dependence can develop unknowingly despite following the opioid prescription. People with an addiction experience support from the nurses who listen to them and show compassion. Aim: The aim of this literature study was to highlight how people who use opioids and people with an opioid addiction experience the encounter with healthcare. Method: This study is a literature study. The searches were made using two databases and the searches generated nine result articles. Result: Three categories were formed: Experiences of worry; The experiences of the encounter; Desires of a good healthcare encounter. Conclusion: People’s experiences of getting treatment with opioids was characterised with concerns of becoming addicted. The effect opioid treatment had on people's lives and the stigmatization of opioid use with healthcare professionals led to distrust. People who received care from healthcare professionals who had an open mind and were non-judgmental were more likely to finish their care.

Barn med cancer: den påfrestande tiden: Ur föräldrars perspektiv2020Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

When a child develops cancer, the whole family is affected. Children that have been diagnosed with cancer, have a long health care process ahead of them with treatments that could result in major side effects. To be a parent with a child who suffers from cancer, is psychologically strenuous. The purpose was to describe how parents are affected by having a child undergoing cancer treatment. The methodology applied for the study was a literature review where searches were done in two different databases with a health care focus. The searches resulted in nine scientific articles, which were reviewed and then merged into a result. The result describes the parent’s experiences in the following categories: that the family and relations are affected, travel to and from the hospital, to be strong and find hope and to be responsible for the child when returning home. It was revealed that it is important that the parents participate in their child’s care because it made them feel important and in control of the situation. When participation was lacking, the parents experienced anxiety and apprehension. The conclusion on the results from the literature review highlights the need for good collaboration between parents and health care staff for the parents to feel secure. Multiple options for support to the parents are required. The support groups that exist today are not considered adequate. It is therefore recommended that research continues to examine parents experiences, with aim of giving the nurse as well as other health care staff, greater understanding on how to support the parents well-being during this demanding time period.

    Abstract [en]

Peripheral intravenous catheter (PIVC) is an indwelling catheter in a vein, in purpose to administrate treatment. Patients can experience PIVC as unpleasant and it is in the nurses’ interest to provide a safe and patient-centered care to promote patient participation in care. The aim of the literature study was to illustrate factors that can affect adult patients experiences of peripheral intravenous catheters. The study was conducted as a structured literature review with an inductive approach. The result was based on ten scientific articles which highlighted factors that affect adult patients experiences of PIVC. Categories that emerged was Patients feelings, Information and communication, Patients’ experiences of health professionals and Pain. The result highlighted that patients’ feelings needed to be taken into consideration, as well as the nurse’s role and way of working affected a good experience. Lack of information, communication and documentation had a negative impact on patients experiences of PIVC-insertions. Pain was a recurrent factor when PIVC-insertion was performed, and several distraction-methods and tools appeared to reduce the patients experiences of pain. The conclusion was that the PIVC experience improved when nurses related to the factors affecting patients’ experiences of the procedure.

Information om fertilitet och risk för infertilitet vid en cancerbehandling: En litteraturstudie om kvinnors upplevelse2020Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Background: Cancer treatments can have many consequences in women where damage to their ovarian tissue can lead to medical infertility. Fertilitypreservation is a method that should be offered to women undergoing cancer treatment to preserve gametes in women in risk of becoming infertile depending on cancer diagnosis, cancer treatment and relationship status. Aim: The aim of the literature study was to illuminate women's experiences receiving information regarding fertility and risk of infertility during a cancer treatment. Method: The literature study was based on five qualitative and three quantitative studies. Result: There's a distinct red line in women's experiences of lack off or no information at all related to how fertility could be affected by a cancer treatment. When informed the experience was mostly negative and women were left unknowing with reflections and thoughts. Out of the eight studies two main themes emerged: Lack of information and Non equal information. Conclusion: Because of the chances of cancer survival in todays society are higher than before the healthcare community needs to prioritize individuals and focus on life after cancer. Information given should be individualized for patients to enable the best conditions for family planning after a cancer treatment.

Implementering av ICT-verktyg i bygg- & anläggningsbranschen – dess planering och förberedande arbete: En studie av planeringsprocessen inför implementering av ett ICT-verktyg.2019Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

ICT-tools is increasingly being used by the construction industry to streamline the production and simplify the dissemination of information. When implementing ICT-tools, the industry challenges the outcome with its many factors. Despite existing guidelines regarding implementation, there is a tendency to not utilize ICT-tools since it is not considered applicable by the industry. The case study focusses on the planning before implementation of ICT-tools, in order to find out what these attitudes depend on and how to handle them.

The purpose is to see how the process before implementation can look like, highlight key factors that are typical for construction and find solutions to them.

The method is a combination of a case study and a literature study. The report follows a classic construction company when it is planning implementation of an ICT-tool. The authors evaluate the work with a constant comparative and ethnographic participant observation, where behaviour patterns are analysed. Observed patterns are divided into four themes by the authors which is discussed and leads to the conclusion that the structure and information flows are not clear in the construction industry. Finally, the authors present an activity schedule, in order to facilitate planning of implementation. It primarily permeates notes that instruct clarity and consistently preparatory activities.
